Aaron Grail Construction Neighbor

Sebastopol — Lone Pine Rd (down the road from us) · Lic. 839951 · natural building
Natural-plaster home with standing-seam metal roof and flagstone path on a Sonoma hillside

Aaron is a California-licensed general contractor (since 2004) based on Lone Pine Road — practically our neighbor. His company centers on bio-based building: straw bale, hemp-lime (hempcrete), and cork, chosen for fire performance, thermal comfort, low embodied carbon, and healthier indoor air. He's currently deploying carbon-capture materials on a Sonoma County multi-family project and recently completed a hempcrete-spray training at OSU.

His portfolio runs to residential homes, barns and garages, and finish carpentry — named projects include The Caretakers Home, The Carriage House, and El Granero (a barn). He can run it as design-build, or pair with an architect (e.g. Alchemy or Arkin Tilt) on the drawings. Because he's a few minutes away, a site walk is free and in person — unlike a paid remote architect visit.

Cost

Estimated build cost
~$450–650/sqft natural-build custom (est.)

Aaron is a builder, not a catalog — pricing is per project. Straw-bale / hempcrete custom work in Sonoma typically runs toward this range all-in (the wall system + plaster + finishes carry a premium over conventional framing). For our 2 × ~1,200 sqft compound (~2,400 sqft) that's roughly $1.1–1.6M hard cost, in line with our ~$1.8–2.2M all-in budget once site, septic, and soft costs are added.
